Bussola ("the app") is a MongoDB client for iPhone developed by Giacomo Fava.
Data we collect
None. The app has no account system, no analytics, no advertising, no crash reporting service and no server of its own. The developer receives no data from the app.
Data stored on your device
- Connection strings (including any username and password they contain), connection names and settings are stored in the iOS Keychain of your device with the "when unlocked, this device only" protection class. They are not synced to iCloud and cannot be restored to another device.
- The list of recently used connections is stored on the device together with the connections.
- A diagnostic log of recent connection events (event types, timings, error codes) is kept in memory only while the app is running. It never contains connection strings, passwords or document data.
Deleting a connection in the app removes its data from the Keychain. iOS may keep Keychain items after the app is uninstalled, so delete your connections in the app first if you want them gone.
Network connections
The app connects only to the database servers you configure, directly from your device, using MongoDB's protocol (over TLS when your connection string requires it). To resolve mongodb+srv:// addresses the app uses the iOS system DNS resolver; if that fails, it queries the public DNS resolvers of Cloudflare and Google. Those queries contain only the host name of your database, never your credentials.
Documents you read or modify travel only between your device and your database. Data you choose to export or share through the iOS share sheet goes wherever you send it.
Local network
If you add a connection to a server on your local network, iOS asks for permission to access the local network. The permission is used only to connect to that server.
Children
The app is a developer tool and is not directed at children.
